The City of Cape Town has approved the Municipal Planning By-law that wlll allow for the publication of notices of approval of building plans.
The City of Cape Town has approved a new by-law that mandates the publication of building plan approvals on its website, significantly improving transparency and public engagement in the planning process.
A report tabled to council last week stated that the amendments to the by-law required proper notification of decisions to the public via the municipal website.
“The notice need not describe the content of the building plan. It must identify the land unit, state that a building plan approval was granted, and explain how to request access to the approved plan and the reasons and how to submit a third-party complaint,” reads the by-law.
Surrounding owners may, within 44 days of approval, inspect the approved building plan and request electronic copies on payment of the prescribed fee.
