A 48-year-old woman from the Varna village of Medovets has died after spending a month in critical condition following an attack in which her husband allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire during a family dispute.
Faize Ahmed died Sunday at the Naval Hospital in Varna, according to her relatives, who announced her death on social media.
The incident occurred on July 27, when an argument broke out between Faize and her husband, Ismail Ahmed. In front of their two children, the man allegedly poured gasoline over his wife and set her on fire.
The woman suffered burns covering about 40 percent of her body and was taken to a hospital in Varna in critical condition. Her husband, who had reportedly consumed a significant amount of alcohol before the incident, was arrested.
Faize's relatives subsequently organized a large blood donation campaign as she underwent several emergency blood transfusions during her month-long hospitalization. Despite the efforts of doctors, she never regained consciousness and eventually required mechanical ventilation.
