A 32-year-old woman in Sarrud village, Kalat County, died from severe burn injuries after her husband set her on fire with gasoline.

The human rights news agency HRANA reported that the woman, identified as Fatemeh, was set ablaze on December 20, 2025, during a dispute with her spouse.

The 38-year-old husband confessed during police questioning that he poured gasoline over her and ignited her clothes with a lighter following an argument. He claimed that he did not intend to kill her.

After smothering the flames with a blanket, the perpetrator transported his wife, accompanied by their 12-year-old child, to Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad but fled the scene before entering the facility. Fatemeh died in the burn unit several hours after being admitted.

The suspect turned himself in at the Zavin police station after learning of his wife’s death. During questioning, he stated that, after returning from an addiction rehabilitation centre, a dispute had escalated between them over the sale of the family car and gold items.
