Kamogelo Maseko has been named captain of the Proteas team who will defend their title at the upcoming 2026 Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kamogelo Maseko has been handed the captaincy of a reshuffled Spar Proteas squad for next month’s Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi, with coach Jenny van Dyk using the tournament to build depth ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup.
South Africa, the defending champions, will travel to Kenya for the tournament from September 19 to 26, with several senior players rested after the Proteas’ recent Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow, where they finished fifth.
Maseko, who will lead a squad featuring a number of new combinations and faces, said being entrusted with the captaincy was an honour and a responsibility.
“Being named captain for the team travelling to Kenya for the Africa Cup has been such a proud moment for me,” Maseko said. “It’s also quite emotional, but understanding that it comes with great responsibility. I’m excited to lead a group of new players, new combinations and new faces.”
