The European Commission will adopt new decisions and make additional payments for defense support to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
Ukrinform reported this, citing European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari as saying at a news briefing in Brussels.
At the same time, he noted that the European Commission had not received an official request from Ukraine for the early disbursement of the allocated funding.
“We have allocated €45 billion for this year and around €45 billion for next year. This year, €28 billion is allocated for defense and around €17 billion for budget support, and this is also the plan for next year. As far as I know, we have not received an official request to accelerate this process. So, we are focused on implementing this plan,” the spokesperson said.
Of the €28 billion earmarked for Ukraine’s defense support this year, the EU has already allocated €22 billion, of which €8.5 billion has already been disbursed, the official went on to say.
