The European Commission has approved an additional €6.1 billion for the procurement of defense equipment for Ukraine, including air defense systems and radars.
Ukrinform reported this, citing the European Commission’s press release.
“On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Europe is showing unwavering and concrete support. Today, we approved €6.1 billion for air and missile defence systems, missiles, ammunition and radars urgently needed by Ukraine. As Russia intensifies its attacks, we are working to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its skies. Europe stands with Ukraine, and we will provide it with what it needs – when it needs it,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
The funds are part of a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine and are being provided amid Russia’s intensifying attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones.
In July alone, 376 missile attacks were recorded, making the strengthening of Ukraine’s defenses increasingly urgent.
