A drug trafficking ring operating on Mykonos is suspected of having used tourist transfer companies to conceal its activities and launder proceeds from cocaine sales, according to police documents seen by Kathimerini.
Nine people, mostly Turkish, Albanian and Greek nationals, have been arrested in connection with the case. They owned three companies operating passenger vans of the kind widely used to transport visitors around the island.
Investigators believe the businesses allowed the suspects to move around Mykonos without attracting suspicion, make contact with potential customers among tourists and disguise drug proceeds as legitimate transportation revenue.
Police seized seven vans, drugs and substantial amounts of cash during coordinated raids on August 21.
The investigation began in early July after police received information about a network allegedly selling cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and cannabis in Athens and Mykonos. Phone surveillance of an initial suspect led investigators to identify other alleged members.
