A criminal group that dealt drugs on the party island of Mykonos and the Greater Athens region had a high enough turnover to require a banknote-counting machine, which has been seized together with a broad range of illegal substances, authorities said Friday.

A police statement said six people were arrested Wednesday, following a tip-off, for alleged involvement in the ring that is estimated to have stood to earn more than €700,000 since it started business in mid-April.

The suspects included the suspected gang leader and his lieutenants.

Officers who raided homes and other locations used to store drugs in Mykonos, Piraeus and Perama, seized about 3.5 kilograms of cocaine – which they said the gang planned to sell for up to €200 per gram – 1.5 kilos of marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine, ketamine, tranquilisers and magic mushrooms. They also found and confiscated four vans used to move the drugs, the note-counter and more than €94,500 and $11,500 in cash.

Separately, police on Mykonos Friday announced the arrest of two more people for allegedly dealing in small quantities of cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and methamphetamine.
