Police have dismantled an alleged criminal organization involved in drug trafficking on the popular holiday island of Mykonos, arresting nine people during an operation early Friday.
Police estimate the organization’s expected illegal proceeds from the sale of the seized drugs and confiscated cash at more than €170,000.
Investigators say the group operated with clearly defined roles. A 35-year-old man allegedly acted as its leader, sourcing drugs, transporting them to Mykonos and storing them at a house used as a hideout. He is also accused of preparing and distributing the drugs, finding customers, managing trafficking operations and handling part of the proceeds.
A second 35-year-old man was reportedly his close associate, while a 54-year-old woman allegedly guarded drug-trafficking proceeds and transported money from Mykonos to Athens.
Police also highlighted the role of a 34-year-old passenger transport driver, who allegedly used his professional contact with tourists and visitors to identify potential drug buyers. The remaining five suspects, aged between 24 and 34, are believed to have played supporting roles.
