MANILA, Philippines — ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio on Monday appealed for “reasonable” budgeting for agencies as he criticized the P1.5 billion in confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in 2025.
During the House committee on appropriations’ 2027 budget hearing for the agency, Tinio pointed out how the CF ballooned from P168 million to P1.5 billion in 2025.
This was then confirmed by Justice Secretary Frederick Vida, who explained that the P1.5 billion had the following components under then Justice chief Jesus Crispin Remulla: P1.184 billion for the Office of Secretary; P319 million for the Witness Protection Program; P15 million for Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking; P475,000 for the Office of the Cybercrime; and P5 million for National Coordination against Online Sexual Abuse.
