MANILA, Philippines — While the filing of plunder charges against Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan over alleged kickbacks from infrastructure projects is good, there must be no selective justice in the pursuit of accountability, ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio said.
Tinio, in a statement on Thursday, said that the filing of charges is a necessary step towards accountability, but the Office of the Ombudsman needs to extend its probe to other cabinet officials allegedly involved in the 2025 budget mess and the infrastructure corruption scandal.
“The charges against Jinggoy and Bonoan are valid and significant because they expose the deep connivance between the Executive and Legislative branches—showing how entrenched bureaucrat capitalism is in our system,” Tinio said.
“But we must ensure that accountability is comprehensive and not used as political leverage,” he added.
