European Council President Antonio Costa summed up his visit to Kyiv on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Costa made the relevant statements on X, Ukrinform reports.
Commenting on his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, which he described as “excellent,” Costa said they had discussed further EU support for Ukraine and the way forward.
“The EU has stood with Ukraine since the very first day of Russia’s war of aggression, and we will continue to stand by Ukraine’s side. Ukraine can count on us,” he wrote.
Noting that EU membership is the best way to ensure strong, democratic and independent institutions, Costa praised Ukraine’s progress in meeting the criteria for accession to the European Union under “very challenging circumstances.”
