EU leaders struck an overnight deal on Friday, December 18, to provide 90 billion euros in support to Ukraine over the next two years, the president of the European Council announced.

"We have a deal," Antonio Costa posted on X. "Decision to provide 90 billion euros of support to Ukraine for 2026-27 approved."

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Friday the EU had sent a "clear signal" to Russian leader Vladimir Putin by agreeing to send Kyiv the massive amount of funding.

"This sends a clear signal from Europe to Putin: This war will not be worth it," Merz said on X.
