The Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer of Water Resources Department were trapped by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) personnel on August 24.According to official sources, the DVAC Tiruvarur Unit, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Nandagopal, received a complaint from a hotelier who was promoting a lodging house at Velankanni in Nagapattinam district stating that the Water Resources Department officials were demanding bribe.He had approached the WRD officials seeking permission to build uction of a culvert across a canal separating his project site and the carriageway, with his own fund. On receiving his application, the AEE and AE demanded ₹3 lakh to issue the NoC.As the aggrieved hotelier approached the DVAC, he was directed to comply with the demand of the officials and chemical-coated currency notes were given to him for handing over the same to the WRD officials on August 24.The officials were arrested when they received the bribe amount at their office, sources said.
