SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — For nine years, the municipality of Suyo in this province has held on to a distinction it considers more than a title: being a drug-free community.
The municipality marked the ninth anniversary of its drug-free declaration on Aug. 18 with the theme “Napintas Suyo: A Drug-Free Municipality,” bringing together local officials, national government agencies, community leaders and residents to celebrate years of collective effort.
In his speech, Mayor Mario Subagan said the milestone was a reminder that keeping illegal drugs out of the community cannot rest on the police or local government alone.
