PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday marked its fifth year as an insurgency-free province, a milestone that Presidential Peace Adviser Mel Senen Sarmiento described as proof of the province’s transformation from a conflict area into a “show window of peace and development” in Western Mindanao.

Sarmiento, together with Governor Divina Grace Yu and other local officials, said the achievement reflects strong governance, sustained peacebuilding efforts, and the trust and cooperation of local communities.
