PATRIOTIC TRIBUTE Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. renders a salute while other provincial officials place their hands over their hearts during the flag-raising ceremony at last year’s opening of the Naliyagan Festival on June 12, as the prov- ince joined the nation in commemorating the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence.
PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR—As the nation commemorates Philippine Independence Day today, Agusan del Sur is marking the occasion by opening the Naliyagan Festival 2026, blending patriotism, cultural heritage, and community celebration into one of the province’s biggest annual events.
The opening program is expected to combine national pride with local identity, transforming Independence Day into a celebration not only of the country’s freedom but also of the rich traditions and cultural diversity of Agusan del Sur.
From the flag-raising ceremony to cultural presentations, the festival will highlight how the spirit of independence continues to be reflected in local communities through the preservation of heritage, the promotion of arts and culture, and the strengthening of community ties, said the event organizers.
