Authorities on the Cycladic island of Andros are investigating the possible discovery of about 2.3 kilograms of cocaine in two packages found on beaches.
Early Wednesday, officers from the Andros Port Authority found a plastic-wrapped package on Gialia beach on the island’s eastern coast. The package was suspected of containing about 1.23 kilograms of cocaine.
The following day, Coast Guard divers conducted an underwater search in the wider sea area off the beach, while Port Authority officers searched nearby beaches.
A second package was subsequently found in a remote area of an adjacent beach. It was suspected of containing about 1 kilogram of cocaine.
The suspected drugs have been sent for chemical analysis as the investigation continues.
