The SIU will investigate allegations of corruption, maladministration and irregular expenditure linked to 14 generators procured during the 2022/23 financial year at Theewaterskloof Municipality.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate the procurement of 14 backup generators for boreholes and water pump stations at Theewaterskloof Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

The SIU investigation follows Proclamation 339 of 2026, which authorises the unit to investigate allegations of serious maladministration, corruption, irregular expenditure and unlawful or improper loss of public funds at the municipality.

SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho said the investigation would examine the procurement and contracting for the supply, delivery and installation of the generators during the 2022/23 financial year.

The probe will cover boreholes and water pump stations in Grabouw, Greyton, Caledon, Villiersdorp, Botrivier, Genadendal, Tesselaarsdal and Riviersonderend.
