The SIU's investigation into alleged corruption at Umzumbe Local Municipality has been extended after President Cyril Ramaphosa amended the proclamation authorising the ongoing municipal corruption probe.
The Special Investigating Unit's (SIU) corruption investigation into KwaZulu-Natal's Umzumbe Local Municipality has been expanded after President Cyril Ramaphosa amended the proclamation authorising the probe, allowing investigators to pursue additional matters linked to the original inquiry.
The amendment, published in the Government Gazette on Friday, changes Proclamation 183 of 2024, which authorised the SIU to investigate allegations of serious maladministration, unlawful expenditure of public funds, procurement irregularities and corruption relating to several municipal infrastructure projects.
The proclamation forms part of an SIU investigation launched in September 2024 into seven municipal contracts.
The SIU said the amendment made two key changes to the original proclamation.
