The Niger State Government has spent N3.7 billion on office furniture and fittings for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), well above the N320 million approved for the expenditure, raising questions over compliance with the state's approved budget and its financial management practices.

Details contained in the Niger State Government’s audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, show that the government recorded an actual expenditure of N3,717,439,752.17 on the project described as “Provision of 20nos executive chairs and tables, 5nos 10 seater conference tables and chairs, 10nos reception desks, 5nos dining table and chairs at the New SSG’s Complex.”

The project was listed under the “Reform of Government and Governance” programme of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

According to the financial document, the project had a revised budget of N400 million and an approved budget of N320 million for the 2025 fiscal year.
