MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Thursday released a shortlist of 39 possible sites where large rain-catchment structures can be built to ease the perennial flooding problem in the National Capital Region.
The number is more than the 30 potential sites mentioned by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after leading a situation briefing at the headquarters of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Pasig City on Wednesday on the effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat).
Absent from the list mentioned by Marcos was University of Santo Tomas (UST), which is located along the perennially flooded España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila. The MMDA said UST has yet to approve the proposal.
