With the draft electoral roll prepared as per the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) set to be published on August 24, the Election Commission (EC) will send notices to as many as 2.47 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The notices will be issued to them as their names mismatch with the names mentioned in the 2002 electoral roll and names of some of them have not been mapped, according to the EC officials. After the end of first phase of the SIR on August 17, names of 1.57 lakh voters mismatch and some of them have not been mapped in Dakshina Kannada. This number stands at 97,697 in Udupi district, the officials said.By issuing notices to them, they will be asked to appear on a scheduled date and produce documents before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO). The Booth Level Officers will serve notices at their doorsteps and take photographs of voters receiving the notices. These photographs will be uploaded to the ECINET/BLO app. After inquiry and going through the documents, the ERO will take a decision, said Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa, in a meeting with representatives of political parties on Wednesday.Ms. Swaroopa told The Hindu that the commission would accept claims related to voters included in the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) list. It will hear the claims, go through the submitted documents and decide about including their names in the electoral roll. While maintaining that no eligible voter would be left out in the SIR process, Dakshina Kannada electoral officials said an eligible voter, whose details do not match with that in 2002 electoral roll or if there are discrepancies in progeny details, would be asked to submit form no. 6 for inclusion of his/her name. The form no. 6, along with declaration form, and one among the 11 acceptable documents, would be received by the ERO.“The SIR process is to have a clean electoral roll, and no eligible voter will be left out in the process,” said an electoral official of Dakshina Kannda.Of the total 18.03 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada, enumeration forms of 16.46 lakh (91.27%) voters have been digitalised in the period between June 30 and August 17. As many as 1.57 lakh voters (8.73%) were in the ASDD list. Similarly, in Udupi district, of the total 10.63 lakh voters, enumeration forms of 10 lakh voters were digitalised, and 63,331 voters were in the ASDD list. Published - August 20, 2026 06:22 pm IST
