The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Meghalaya and Jharkhand. As part of the voter verification drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits to verify voter details and update electoral rolls. Here's everything voters need to know about the SIR exercise. What Is the SIR Exercise? The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a voter list verification exercise aimed at updating electoral rolls by identifying eligible voters and removing ineligible entries. BLOs will distribute and collect enumeration forms from registered voters during the verification process. Important Dates June 30 to July 29: House-to-house verification and collection of enumeration forms August 5: Publication of draft electoral rolls August 5 to September 4: Claims and objections period October 7: Publication of final electoral rolls Why Is the Verification Being Conducted? The exercise is intended to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate and updated. The Election Commission aims to remove duplicate, deceased or otherwise ineligible entries while ensuring that all eligible voters are correctly registered.Do Existing Voters Need to Take Any Action? Yes. Existing voters must fill out the enumeration form provided by the BLO. One copy should be submitted to the BLO, and voters should keep the acknowledgement receipt issued after submission. When Will BLOs Visit Homes? BLOs will conduct house-to-house visits between June 30 and July 29 to distribute and collect enumeration forms. What Happens If No One Is Home? If a house is locked during the visit, the BLO will leave an enumeration form at the residence. The officer will make at least three attempts to collect the completed form. Is Aadhaar, Passport or Any Other Document Required? No. According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, voters are not required to submit Aadhaar, passport or any other document along with the enumeration form.Can the Enumeration Form Be Submitted Online? Yes. Voters can also complete and submit the enumeration form through the Election Commission's voter portal.What Information Must Be Provided? Voters will need to provide details related to the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) while filling out the form. Those who do not remember their details can search using: EPIC (Voter ID) number Name and other personal details Polling station details What If My Name Was Not Included in the Previous SIR? If your name was not included in the previous revision but your parents' or grandparents' names appeared on the voter list, you should provide their details in the enumeration form.What If My Parents Have Never Been Registered as Voters? You can still mention your parents' names in the form. Election officials may request supporting documents later, if necessary.What Should Married Applicants Do? Married applicants whose names were not included in the previous SIR should provide details of their parents or grandparents from their parental family. Details of in-laws should not be mentioned.How Can Voters Check Their Details? The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5. Voters should review their details carefully and report any errors, omissions or discrepancies.
