The investigation into the killing of a 21-year-old man from the Bulgarian village of Nayden Gerovo, whose body was found near a sheep farm in the town of Saedinenie, is continuing, with a former police officer facing two criminal charges. Prosecutors have charged 63-year-old Todor Lapkov with premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office, the killing took place shortly after midnight on August 12 at a sheep farm in the Tochilartsi area. Investigators say a conflict broke out between Lapkov and the victim, identified as Mitko Dimitrov, after which the former police officer fired two shots with an illegally held hunting rifle.
Authorities believe Lapkov then tried to conceal the crime. The victim's body was allegedly dismembered, placed in plastic bags and hidden in a nearby shaft. Relatives reported Dimitrov missing, and the retired police officer was questioned during the initial search. According to police, he later confessed during additional investigative actions.
The exact motive has not yet been established, and prosecutors say the investigation remains at an early stage. Investigators are considering several possibilities, including an earlier theft of money and self-defense.
