The court has temporarily suspended the appointment of NSFAS Administrator Professor Hlengani Mathebula pending the outcome of a review application.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) board has welcomed a Pretoria High Court ruling that grants interim relief by suspending the appointment of the scheme’s administrator.
The court further directed that former board members be immediately reinstated while the final review of the matter is pending.
This legal battle began after Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela decided to dissolve the NSFAS board and place the entity under administration.
In response, seven remaining board members sought urgent relief, arguing that the minister’s intervention was procedurally flawed and undermined the board's statutory authority.
