The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a 200-metre-long Tiranga Yatra in Dharwad on Friday as part of the Independence Day celebrations and to mark the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’.The procession began at Lingayat Bhavan and passed through Saptapur Bavi and KCD Circle before reaching Jubilee Circle. At Jubilee Circle, municipal sanitation workers paid floral tributes to the statue of B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.Hundreds of students and youths participated in the procession, carrying a 200-metre-long Tricolour. They were joined by senior citizens and people from different walks of life.Vice-president of ABVP Karnataka North Province, Anand Hosur, said the yatra was intended to foster patriotism, national unity, and a sense of responsibility among young people.The participants also recalled the role of ‘Vande Mataram’ in inspiring the freedom movement and paid tribute to freedom fighters and other personalities who contributed to the country’s struggle for independence.ABVP office bearers Pramukh Erappa Pattar, Ramanagouda Patil, Adarsh, Nagadatta Wadeyar, Vijayalaxmi Mane and others coordinated the march.
