MANILA, Philippines — The Senate environment panel chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo on Friday moved to subpoena the municipal environment officer of Magalang, Pampanga, and several officials of Chuanxing Steel Inc. after they failed to attend the committee hearing on complaints and alleged violations involving the company.
“In view of the absence of Mr. Pablo Mercado, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) of Magalang, despite being notified of today’s hearing, I move that the subpoena be issued to him,” Tulfo said in the panel hearing.
He also moved to issue a subpoena to Chuanxing Inc. Directors and Officers Lin Jinshan; Wang, Fanghe; Wilson Shi; Wang, Honggou; Wang, Ronqi and Ma. Irish. Casipe
The move came after Mercado was shown in a video presented during Tulfo’s opening statement telling Tulfo’s office that Chuanxing had complied with its environmental requirements.
