Clean-up operations are under way at Cape Peninsula University of Technology Cape Town Campus, following violent protests overnight, which left damage to property,
Lectures have been suspended at several Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) campuses as students continue to protest over financial and academic grievances.
It is believed that the protests have centred on student debt, registration costs, accommodation fees, conditions in university residences, and the withholding of academic transcripts.
This comes after the handover of a second memorandum by students at CPUT's Bellville campus earlier this week. Students handed over the memorandum after several days of mass meetings and protests, following grievances including student finances, historical debt, and the university's new admissions fee.
Students have also raised concerns that residence fees exceed the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding cap, with some students living in CPUT residences required to cover the difference.
