Greece and Spain are among the most popular short- and medium-distance destinations this summer, the world’s largest travel and leisure company, Germany’s TUI AG, notes.
The company, which just published its results for the nine months to June 30, says that travel to the Eastern Mediterranean has rebounded and that travelers are more likely to make last-minute booking decisions.
Despite an initial slowdown caused by the conflict in the Middle East and consumer caution in key European markets, bookings have rebounded significantly over the past four weeks, registering a 7% increase.
However, total revenue from secured bookings for the summer season is down 6% year-on-year, and up one percentage point from May estimates.
