More and more Greeks are choosing to vacation abroad, as traveling to and spending time at many popular destinations in their own country is far less affordable than it once was.
For a growing section of the population, the budget for a week-long vacation in a popular Greek destination has become much less competitive than a package trip or a city break elsewhere in Europe.
According to the latest data, the average price for a double room this July at hotels across the country ranges between €178 and €181.
In 2025, payments by Greek travelers visiting foreign countries rose 19% to €3.34 billion, from €2.8 billion in 2024, according to the Bank of Greece.
