Greece is emerging as one of the standout winners in a reshaped global summer travel market, as new data shows Southern Europe leading international tourism growth amid geopolitical uncertainty and shifting flight patterns.

According to analysis from The Data Appeal Company/Almaviva Group, quoted by Euronews on Monday, Southern Europe is expected to capture 11.71% of global international travel intent between June and August 2026, up 2.47 percentage points from last year. The findings are based on flight-search data measuring global demand trends.

Greece, alongside Spain and Italy, is driving much of that growth as travelers increasingly favor destinations perceived as closer, more familiar and more accessible.

Athens, in particular, recorded the strongest year-on-year rise in travel intent among major Southern European cities. The Greek capital rose 0.23 percentage points to 0.77% of global demand, reflecting its dual role as both a cultural city-break destination and a gateway to the country’s islands.
