ANC says it can rescue Joburg, but where is the turnaround plan?

ANC NEC member Dickson Masemola says the challenges facing the City of Johannesburg were inherited when the coalition government began in the metro in 2016, under a DA-led administration and insists the ANC can fix the city.

However, political analysts have questioned whether the ANC can govern the city alone again, pointing to its own record in local government.

The ANC has repeatedly blamed previous administrations for Johannesburg’s current problems, a claim the DA has vehemently rejected.

Masemola, the party’s deputy chairperson of the local government intervention task team, was speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday to reflect on the review of the ANC’s 2021 Local Government Elections Manifesto and preparations for the November 4 local government elections.
