Road Traffic Inspectorate officials inspect an abnormal-load truck on the N3 after it was intercepted and impounded for operating during hazardous snowfall conditions in KwaZulu-Natal.
Several abnormal-load trucks have been intercepted and impounded along the N3 by KwaZulu-Natal's Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) as severe snowfall and heavy rainfall continue to disrupt traffic across the province.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson for Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the vehicles were stopped for operating in dangerous weather conditions in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.
The operation forms part of the province's Snowfall Response Plan aimed at reducing congestion and preventing accidents on key transport routes affected by a cut-off low-pressure system that has brought snow and prolonged rainfall to parts of the province.
"Our vigilant team from Road Traffic Inspectorate has intercepted and impounded abnormal and dangerous trucks along the N3," Duma said.
