The Gabrovo District Prosecutor's Office is investigating whether an ignition source was deliberately or carelessly introduced at the EMCO weapons plant near Tryavna, as part of an inquiry into the explosions that destroyed a warehouse in the village of Belitsa.

Gabrovo District Prosecutor Tihomir Petkov said the prosecutor's office is supervising the pre-trial proceedings, which were launched through urgent investigative measures, including the questioning of witnesses by an investigating police officer.

Because of the case's significant factual and legal complexity, Petkov has assigned the investigation to a team of investigators with the necessary qualifications and experience in similar proceedings.

The case is being investigated under Article 330, paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code, concerning arson that causes significant damage, creates a danger to human life or poses a risk of the fire spreading to other property.

The prosecutor said the investigative team was not expected to have access to all experts, specialists and technical assistants needed for the inspection of the scene on Wednesday. The detailed inspection is currently scheduled for Thursday.
