Greece will see strengthening northerly winds, known as meltemi, reaching up to 9 on the Beaufort scale this week, according to forecasts.
Gusts of 7 to 8 Beaufort will hit the Aegean Wednesday, with the strongest winds affecting southern Evia, eastern Sterea and the northern Cyclades. Temperatures will stay high in western and southern Greece, nearing 38-39 degrees Celsius in the Peloponnese, Epirus and western Sterea.
Starting Thursday, storms are expected in Macedonia and Epirus, spreading to Thessaly Friday, as temperatures gradually drop. The mid-August holiday will bring cooler highs near 30 degrees in the east. Winds will remain strong, raising wildfire risk across the country.
