Police in Samoa have not released a statement about a vehicle accident involving a 19-year-old female and her aunt at Faleula Uta bringing to light the need for the service to better inform the public about road safety and give real-time updates.

The road accident happened on Monday during Father's Day public holiday, the two family members were taken to hospital by the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA).

The accident occurred at about 3 p.m, according to eyewitnesses, police attended the scene shortly after the incident, but couldn't immediately release information about the incident despite attempts by the Samoa Observer to get a update on the incident.

This morning Acting Police Commissioner, Leiatua Samuelu Afamasaga, confirmed the drowning of a one year old at Fugalei, but hung up to attend a meeting before the Samoa Observer could ask about this incident.

But, Witnesses said the accident followed a family dispute. They alleged the driver, the teenager's uncle-in-law, was preparing to leave in his vehicle when he put his vehicle into drive instead of reverse and moved forward, striking the 19-year-old female and her aunt.
