A one-year-old child from Tafua, Savai'i, who died after being struck by a reversing family vehicle last month, was laid to rest on Saturday as police continue investigating the fatal accident.

The incident happened on July 8 at about 1 p.m.

According to information gathered by the Samoa Observer, the family's vehicle was reversing when the driver allegedly did not realise the child was behind it.

The child was rushed to Tuasivi Hospital but was pronounced dead before arrival.

The vehicle involved belonged to the family. The driver has been identified as the child's mother's uncle.
