Samoa Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga has confirmed that a one-year-old boy from Fugalei and Lotofaga drowned in a drain at Fugalei on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. when the baby was found in the drain.
His parents rushed him to Tupua Tamasese Mea’ole Hospital at Moto’otua for emergency medical attention, but, doctors pronounced the child dead on arrival. Medical staff later reported the incident to police.
The circumstances surrounding how the baby entered the drain have not been provided, and police have not released further details about the incident further highlighting the need for real-time updates from the Samoa Police.
The death has left the child’s family and community mourning the loss of the young boy.
