Russia has effectively lost the ability to use occupied Crimea as a naval base, but continues to launch airstrikes against Ukraine and maintain military infrastructure on the peninsula.
According to Ukrinform, Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Naval Forces, stated this on television.
“They [the Russians] have effectively lost Crimea as a naval base,” Pletenchuk said.
According to him, there is currently no real question of the Russian fleet being based on the peninsula. At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue to target military facilities in Crimea that ensure the Russians’ continued presence in the region.
“Operations there are practically ongoing 24/7. These are, of course, the military infrastructure facilities that enable the Russians to continue maintaining their presence here,” the spokesperson noted.
