Novorossiysk remains the last outpost where Russia can station its Black Sea Fleet warships after losing the ability to use Crimea as a naval base fully.
According to Ukrinform, Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Naval Forces, stated this on television.
“It’s not so much that it’s not very secure [Novorossiysk], but rather that it’s the last one. It’s the last outpost where they still keep their ships,” Pletenchuk emphasized.
According to him, Russia is trying to defend Novorossiysk by various means, including air defense systems and surface vessels.
“Of course, the situation there isn’t that simple in reality; nevertheless, they have surrounded it with various combat assets, including both surface vessels and air defense systems, and are accordingly simply trying to survive,” the spokesperson explained.
