Russian aircraft based in temporarily occupied Crimea have significantly reduced their activity over the Black Sea over the past two weeks. This may indicate that Russia is facing difficulties supplying its occupation forces on the peninsula.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
"Over the past two weeks, we have seen that they [the Russians] are experiencing difficulties with this. The number of sorties has decreased by an order of magnitude. Whereas previously there were dozens of sorties per day, now we are talking about only a handful," he said.
According to Pletenchuk, the main problem in the Black Sea remains Russian aviation based in Crimea, which for a long time effectively dominated the airspace. At the same time, he noted that the decline in the number of sorties could affect Russia's ability to carry out its plans in the Black Sea.
"The trend of a decrease specifically in the number of sorties may indicate that they are indeed already experiencing difficulties in supplying the occupation forces in Crimea," the spokesperson said.
