The reports monitor the progress of EU digitisation
The review of the 2030 Digital Decade Policy Programme, set by law for 30 June 2026, will not be tabled before 2027, multiple sources with knowledge of the matter told Euractiv.
Adopted in December 2022, the 2030 Digital Decade Policy Programme established a legal framework enabling EU countries to develop national roadmaps for the digitalisation of their public administrations and economies, with the aim of guiding public and private investment.
Progress towards the targets is monitored at EU level through annual comparative reports. The Commission should have tabled a review of the framework on 30 June, but missed the deadline. The Commission is now eyeing publication in 2027, the sources told Euractiv.
The review could tackle several issues with the current framework. The past four editions of the EU’s annual digital target report outlined a shortage in digital skills, affecting both the general population and ICT specialists and effectively hindering the bloc’s competitiveness.
