The Quantum Act was originally planned for publication between April and June
The EU’s first regulation on quantum technologies, dubbed the Quantum Act, has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of 2026, after it was initially expected during the second quarter.
The Commission had planned to publish the regulation by the end of June. However, multiple sources told Euractiv that the legislative proposal is now tentatively planned for the last quarter of 2026.
The promise of the quantum revolution is that future quantum computers will be able to solve problems in minutes or hours that would take conventional silicon-based computers years to tackle. For now, however, existing quantum computers remain less capable than their conventional counterparts.
The Commission now aims to support the development of a globally competitive EU quantum market.
