Latest shift follows warning by US ambassador to EU against 'protectionist' rules

The European Commission has delayed formal presentation of its tech sovereignty package to 3 June, per an agenda of College meetings published on Tuesday – marking the third such delay on the flagship plan’s big reveal.

The latest postponement comes soon after a blunt warning by the US ambassador to the EU, speaking in an interview with Euractiv earlier this month, that “protectionist” rules could derail the EU-US trade deal.

The Commission has said the tech sovereignty package will include major digital infrastructure proposals, including the Cloud and AI Development Act (CAIDA) – focused on boosting regional data centre construction – and the Chips Act 2, another attempt by the bloc’s lawmakers to attract chipmakers to Europe.
