Police have opened an investigation into the death of a 38-year-old police officer, who was found dead inside a patrol car in the district of Agios Dimitrios, in southern Athens, on Tuesday.
The man served in the Athens Patrol Sub-Directorate and had been reported missing by his wife on Monday morning. Authorities were able to pinpoint his location using his mobile phone, which had remained on.
The police car, which was locked, was located at the intersection of a Vouliagmeni side street and the dead-end of Pikrodafni Street. According to initial information, the forensic examiner who arrived at the scene did not find any visible injuries or obvious evidence that would point to a criminal act. However, authorities are not ruling out any possibility and are awaiting the results of the forensic examination to clarify the exact causes of death.
Among the scenarios being considered is that of sudden death from pathological causes, though his wife reportedly told the authorities that the officer did not have any known health problems. According to information, police have found no evidence that there had been a fight or other incidents that would have raised suspicions.
