Aug. 10 (Asia Today) -- The number of young South Koreans enrolled in employment insurance fell for the 47th consecutive month in July as companies favored experienced workers and increasingly adopted artificial intelligence and robotics, government data showed Monday.
Manufacturing employment insurance enrollment also declined for a 14th consecutive month amid weakness in several major industries.
The Labor Ministry estimated that about 60% of the decline among workers age 29 and younger was attributable to South Korea's shrinking youth population while roughly 40% reflected declining employment.
The number of people regularly enrolled in employment insurance reached 15.877 million in July, up 277,000, or 1.8%, from a year earlier, according to the ministry's monthly labor market report based on employment administration statistics.
