To understand the reasons behind the soaring prices of over-the-counter medicines, supplements, and capsules produced by domestic pharmaceutical companies under licences from internationally recognised companies, I began my investigation with an intimate conversation with a pharmacist, Kiomars (a pseudonym agreed upon), a member of the Iranian Pharmacists Association.

"First of all, we must bear in mind that our association has lifted the requirement for a minimum distance between pharmacies, and the population threshold for establishing new pharmacies has also been removed. As a result, it has become possible to open pharmacies less than 20 metres apart in the same neighbourhood."
