POLICE crime scene experts outside the Klaarwater Sizakala Centre offices of eThekwini ward 17 councillor Sibusiso Khwela who was gunned down while helping residents on Thursday. The Political Killings Task Team has taken over the case.

AS tributes continue to pour in following the daylight murder of a ward 17 councillor in Mariannhill, the ANC Regional Task Team (RTT) in eThekwini has called on the municipality to tighten security for councillors and at municipal buildings.

The party's regional task team made the call following the killing of ANC councillor Sibusiso Nonoza Cedrick Khwela, who was gunned down at his Sizakala Centre office in Klaarwater, inner west of Durban, while assisting residents of his ward.

Khwela, who had served two terms as a councillor, had reportedly stated that he was not standing in for re-election in the November 4 local government elections.

ANC RTT coordinator Thanduxolo Sabelo said the attack had raised concerns about the safety of other councillors serving in the municipality.
