Police are investigating the murder of an eThekwini Councillor in Klaarwater, south of Duban
An eThekwini Municipality ward 17 councillor was gunned down outside his office in Klaarwater near Mariannhill on Thursday.
According to police, Sibusiso Khwela was in his office with several community members when an unknown man arrived and posed as someone needing assistance.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that when the councillor reportedly went out to assist, the man drew a firearm and shot him several times. The councillor died at the scene.
"Different police units are combing for clues and evidence. The man fled the scene on foot. The motive for the killing remains unknown at this stage, and a manhunt for the suspect is underway," he said.
